Fringe – It sucks.

September 25th, 2008 · I think...

I have to admit, I do on occasion get sucked in by all the hype surrounding new TV shows. The latest example is the new paranormal thriller, Fringe. The show is co-created by J.J. Abrams, the man responsible for Lost. That should’ve made me realise what I was in for watching Fringe.

Are they serious? The first episode is a joke and the second isn’t much better. I’ll watch it a bit more but if it doesn’t get better soon then I’m out. [Read more →]

City-Bay in a blistering pace.

September 23rd, 2008 · Mr. Bennett

Blistering, alright – I can still barely walk.

Here I am – the goofball in the center wearing a white t-shirt.

Goofball crossing the line.

In my last post I wrote about how I was deciding to enter the City-Bay fun run this year. Well, despite my absolute lack of current fitness, I did enter.

City-Bay Fun Run and finish line photo

September 15th, 2008 · Mr. Bennett

Oh it is that time of year again. Adelaide’s annual City-Bay fun run has sneaked up on me again. Last year I entered for the first time, taking part in the 12km run (why bother otherwise? 6km, 3km walk/run – not interested).

Last year’s entry was a decision made only a couple of days prior to the event and was quite a daunting leap of faith. Can I do it? I asked myself. Oh well, I’ll have a crack I thought.

and have a crack I did, finishing my first City-Bay without stopping to walk at all in the not-too-shabby time of 1 hour 10 minutes and 16 seconds. Nothing flash but not embarassing.

Next year I’ll go under an hour I said. Yeah, I’ll do it properly and train and stuff.

Well that didn’t happen because the run is next Sunday and I haven’t trained for it. I mean, I have gone for a jog on an irregular basis but, if anything, I am probably 5-10 minutes slower than I was last year – and I didn’t train then either.

Now I am tossing up whether or not I should enter again this year. I’ll have to pay the late entry fee again. [argh!!]

In trying to decide, I did dust off the Under Armour compression pants the other day and go for a run. Oh my, my lungs were burning and I was suffering a terrible stitch within 10 minutes but I did survive.

I guess I have to enter this year if for no other reason than to get a better photo of me crossing the finish line. They have camera’s set up to capture that triumphant moment and I knew there were camera but did I look up or raise my arms in the air like an Olympic champion?

No. I basically had my head down. I still bought the photo but this year I’ll be running right under the middle of the finish gates, arms raised and smiling for the cameras.

Yep, OK, I’ve decided. I have to enter now.

Student Assassinated at Graduation Ceremony

September 7th, 2008 · Mr. Bennett

I’veĀ  been looking back at my posts so far and a really strange thought popped into my head when rereading Graduation. In those pictures, I put a dark shadow around me to obscure my family in the rest of the photo. After a second look, it looks like a sniper has me in his sights. I know that is a horrible thing to think of but it just came to me.

Oh well, I might as well go back to photoshop and add those little cross hair marks to make it look authentic.

Target sighted.

Target sighted.

Just for lol’s…

September 7th, 2008 · random

Who doesn’t love a good laugh?

That’s right. No one. So I thought I just quickly share a couple of my favourite lines from Steven Wright. He is one of my favourite comedians with one-liners like:

  • I like to reminisce with people I don’t know. Granted, it takes longer.

  • A lot of people are afraid of heights. Not me, I’m afraid of widths.

  • Last night I was in a bar and I walked up to this beautiful woman and i said “do you live around here often?”

  • I have a large seashell collection which keep on the beaches all over the world. Maybe you’ve seen it.

Ok, the delivery adds to the humour but still makes me laugh.
