This year I am planning to run my best City-Bay yet. After a reasonable first attempt and last year’s debacle, I am ready to have a serious go and prepare accordingly.

The first articles in The Sunday Mail have begun appearing and training is well and truly underway for many. I’ve started quite slowly, just trying to get the legs adjusted to regular running again and have been running 30-40 minutes 4 times per week.

I have been able to maintain this for a good month now and am ready to try and increase my intensity a bit to make some progress. I’ve begun running some intervals in some of my runs and am going to try incorporate some hills next.

It has supposedly been the wettest Adelaide July in some years but, luckily, I have managed to avoid most of it–finding a rain-free half and hour even on the wettest day. It has been a bit windy though but my new Brooks jacket has been a brilliant purchase. Lightweight, waterproof, hooded – an absolute necessity at this time of the year.

I also bought some new shoes because last year I wasn’t accustomed to running in the shoes I ran in. The result was blistering unlike I’ve ever experienced.

Hopefully posting my progress will help me remain accountable and persevere with my training. I know Steve is training hard and so is the rest of Adelaide.

To anyone else training, keep it up. If I can do it, anyone can.

As part of my blog I really want to interact with people and so far the number of people visiting has been slowly growing.

One visitor, Steve Ellison, was compelled to comment on a recent post about my City-Bay experience. Steve had also taken part in the event and wanted to share his account of the day and his preparation.

I am always open to contributions from people and thank Steve for his contribution.

Steve’s story is one of self improvement and is an inspiration for anyone wanting to improve their fitness or looking to achieve any goal. Steve lost weight, quit smoking and walked like he had never walked before.

When I read it through for the first time, the effect of achieving such a goal was obvious. I know from my first City-Bay that the confidence and motivation you gain from finishing is remarkable. You can see this in Steve’s story. I won’t give anything away, Steve has told it best. You must read it.

Finally, if any one thinks they would like to contribute to my site then please let me know. Contributions on any subject will considered and welcomed.

.
