The Origin of seanbennett.com.au

I guess I’ve always wanted to create my own website. The idea of etching out a small section of internet to claim as my own just seemed too cool and surely I can make a site worthy of existence.

Hey, I’m not trying to create the next big thing on internet here but I am confident that I certainly will have a site that is better than many, many of the sites that are out there now.

Now that I have begun my blog, what am I going to use it for? (btw, I talk to myself sometimes)

Well, I know that the average number of readers of a blog is one – the writer. Realistically, I can write whatever I feel like and no one will notice. Even though I have used my full name, I’m still pretty much anonymous considering the amount of people who will come across me and take notice.

If you are reading this, please prove me wrong and post a comment or contact me.

Ok, if no one is reading, then why am I writing?

I do consider myself to be an optimist and, as such, I have got to believe that someone will be interested in reading what I have to say. Also, while this post represents the beginning of my blog, it also represents the beginning of the next part of my life.

You see, the immediate future is going to be a period of great change for me. I have some goals and just putting them out there will make me more accountable to them. Because if I don’t follow through with what I set out to do then my failure will be on public record.

Once something is placed online, you really lose any control of it – it is out there and it isn’t going to respond to you calling it back.

Ok, wow, I wanted to say a bit more but I don’t want my posts to be too long so I’ll leave it there for now.

Hi, good start. There seems to be a couple of bugs in your theme.

First there are no [previous] and [next] links so people can go back to look at earlier posts (like I tried to).

Secondly, I see you are using a short extract followed by a [Read more...] link – I must do that on mine, it looks good – but if you go to, say, the Genesis tag then you see that the last line on the post Genesis Pt.II is “Well, funny story there.” but in the main post you have “funny” struck out. This could change the whole meaning between the taster and the article. I would be interested to know if that is fixable in WP.

    Hey, thanks for the feedback.

I’ve been meaning to fix the next/prev bit. It is a pretty big flaw.

As for the second point, i didn’t notice that but it seems that the excerpt in wp doesn’t want to show any html markup because there is also a hyperlink in that particular one.

I’ll have to look into that further, i think, because I don’t like that.

    cheers for stopping by.

Thanks again for the feedback, Rick. I’ve managed to fix both issues now.
